The Math the Calculator Applies (Fullness x Rod Width)

Here is the formula the tool runs. Rod width × fullness ratio = total panel width. Total panel width divided by panel count = per-panel width. That is the entire logic, no hidden variables.

The 2x default for pinch pleat

Pinch pleat headers compress panel width to 50% of flat width when hung. A 144 inch flat panel becomes 72 inches of closed drape. That compression is what makes the folds land clean and evenly spaced. Below 2x fullness, the folds flatten and the panel reads stretched. Above 2x, the folds stack too dense and the header looks overworked.

When 1.5x or 2.5x makes sense

Flat headers and rod pockets run 1.5x because they have no built-in compression, they just need enough width to soften the vertical lines. Sheers and ripple folds run 2.5x because the fabric is thinner and the folds only read at higher density. Luxury installations occasionally push to 3x for pooled velvet drops, but that is a designer choice, not a default.
